The hotel derives its name from 15 June 1919, when Captain John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Brown guided their Vickers-Vimy biplane to a bumpy landing in the bogs just south of Clifden, near the Marconi Wireless Station in Derrygimlagh. This marked the world’s first transatlantic flight.
