Alghero is the most important tourist centre of the Riviera del Corallo and of north-western Sardinia. The mild climate, the clear sea with its wonderful colours and the splendid, white, sandy beaches make it ideal for a pleasant holiday. The historic town centre with its characteristic streets, the churches in Catalan-Gothic style, the town walls, the towers and the Aragon style buildings constantly remind that the town was dominated for 4 centuries first by the Catalans, then by the Spanish.
