The main body was built in 1500 and was a storage and guest rooms for farers and pilgrims. This has now become four double rooms and a spacious family suite.
The garden in ancient times was a market area. Today it is one of the most fascinating areas of the Monastery. It is impossible to describe the feeling guests experience when they look out onto the garden towards the valley for the first time. Who once did remains captured through the rest of the life.
We call it “The Little Cloister”, the pretty courtyard that dates back to the 15 th century. Under the shade of a pine tree one can read a good book and be only disturbed by the birds, who have their nests up in the tree.
The cloister was built in the XII century using the rare pink stone of this area. It is the heart of the residence: from here you get to the rooms, the sauna, the church, the refectory and the breakfast room. In the warm season breakfast is served in the court yard filled with the smell of jasmin flowers.

The breakfast is outside in the cloister yard during the warm season. The buffet provides the home made jam from Chiara, home made fruit cakes, fresh bread from Arrone and fresh fruit from the farmers and friends.
What is nicer than a nice drink in the garden listening to the birds? … To have a good glass of wine underneath the arches in the cloister yard smelling sweet jasmin flowers.
In a cordial ambience, in the athmospheric setting of the Abbey, the staff of “Il Cantico” Restaurant offers a local cuisine enriched by special ingredients: truffels, lentils, spelt, lake and river fish, Pork and pigeon. Cooking classes and wine and oil tastings.

The Abbey is situated in the natural park of the Nerina river 13 km from Marmore Waterfalls. Here nature is still wild, the waters are fresh and cristal clear. Every activity that we suggest will always be an unforgettable sensation!
Rafting, walking, trekking, mountain bike… take your choice! The Abbey can be your starting point for discovering the “secret Umbria”, with it’s abandoned hamlets, medieval chapels or abandoned hermitages and little, medieval villages. We suggest a visit at Spoleto, the Marmore Waterfalls, Norcia and also Sc heggino, Narni, Piediluco which are less known bur still surprising!
The charming lake of Piediluco is a well known training area for rowing and canoeing. One can also choose a tranquil ride in a boat exploring the lake margins.

CAR:A1 Firenze/Roma: Exit Orte. Follow indications to Terni, get off Exit:Terni Est. Follow indications for : Visso – Marcerata, Norcia, follow the SS 209 for 20 km. Pass the village Ferentillo, after 3 km turn left, following the indications for the Historical Abbazia San Pietro in Valle.
AIRPLANE: Rome Fiumicino Airport at 140 km
Perugia S. Egidio at 80 km
TRAIN: Line Roma/Ancona, get off at the station of Terni (20 km from the Abbey)
Go on with taxi or bus.
BUS: Bus terminal at Terni (nearby the train station) take Bus 21 to Ferentillo and get off at Ferentillo ( 3km form the Abbey) . Call in time at the Abbey to get picked up by the mini Bus.

The legend of the foundation of the Abbey
The legend tells the story of two hermits named John and Lazarus, who arrived from Siria, in the territories surrounding Spoleto in search of a mysticao place and so they arrived in the Nerina Valley. Here they built a hermitage which became a place of worship for the local people. After the death of John, Lazarus afflicted prayed to the Lord to console him and He let appear in a dream of Faroaldo II, Duke of Spoleto the vision of S. Peter, who ordered him to build a church and a monastery in his honour. Lateron, whilst hunting in the Nerina Valley, Faroaldo spotted the place where the little oratory built by John and Lazarus was erected, and decided it was the ideal place to build the church to be dedicated to S. Peter and the Monastery, which adopted the S. Benedectine rules.
