The hotel is located in Meath, known as the Royal County of Ireland. The area is steeped in history from the passage tombs at Newgrange, Dowth and Knowth to the Hill of Tara and Bective Abbey. The Royal County is a land of Celtic myth and mystery, majestic rivers, lakes, mountains and sea, with warm and friendly people and interesting, attractive nearby towns and villages.

Trim Castle, started by Hugh de Lacy in 1173, has many unusual features including a cruciform design of Keep and Barbican Gate. The castle, also known as King John’s Castle, was used at the set for the film ‘Braveheart’ starring Mel Gibson in 1994.

The Millennium Bridge marks Trim’s status as a modern town and connects the centre to the Porchfields and the walks along the River Boyne. Sheep Gate and Yellow Steeple are testament to Trim’s long and historic past.

Trim has a Visitor and Genealogy Centre in an art deco building beside Trim Castle. Enjoy a multimedia exhibition showing the history and background to the medieval ruins of Trim.

Virtually every significant aspect of Irish History from prehistoric times is associated with County Meath. Testimonies to this fact are the many historic monuments scattered throughout the county.
