Each suite features 2 spacious bedrooms and bathrooms and contemporary-styled kitchen and living areas, some with patios overlooking the forest park.

Ideal for long or short stays, the kitchens are equipped with a microwave, oven, fridge and a dining table. Furthermore, the suite features leather upholstery and a TV/DVD in all rooms.

The hotel provides a choice of 2 award-winning restaurants: The Castlegates serves a distinguished menu of classic and fusion Irish dishes, prepared from the finest local produce and complemented by a carefully selected wine list; for casual dining you can also sample the Upper Deck Bistro serving classic Caesar salads, prime steaks and sizzling fajitas.

The Castlegates Restaurant is open Monday to Saturday between 08:00 – 21:30. Sunday lunch served from 12:00. The Upper Deck Bistro is open nightly from 18:00.

Each suite also features a kitchen area for self-catering.

The imposing ruins of Portumna Castle, currently being restored to its original grandeur, are worth a visit. Located within the precinct of the castle, there are also ruins of a Dominican Friary built around 1425 and destroyed in 1540.

Being on the tip of the Shannon's largest lake, Portumna offers a variety of activities for the water enthusiast, including jet skiing, sailing, wind surfing, boating and power boat racing.

An attractive feature of Portumna is its 18-hole golf course, set centrally in the 1,400-acre Forest Park, making it a challenging and unique inland course.

Shannon Oaks is located on the N65, within driving distance of the N6 (Dublin-Galway road) and the N7 (Dublin-Limerick road).

- Take the N19, following signs to Limerick (and the N18).
- Once on the N18, continue towards Limerick.
- Once you pass Bunratty Castle and Folk Park Limerick, follow signs for Dublin (the N7).
- At Parkway Roundabout, stay on the N7.
- Continue on the N7, heading straight on through a further 3 roundabouts.
- You will go through Annacotty. Stay on the N7. You will pass through the Lisnagry Station level crossing.
- When you reach the Birdhill post office in Nenagh, follow signs for Birr, Portumna (the N52).
- When you reach Borrisokane, switch to the N65 (follow signs for Portumna).
