The Carnarvon Arms

Set within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this traditional country inn is set in the historic market town of Newbury, on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

A Grade II listed building, The Canarvon Arms was originally built in the 1800s as a coaching inn, providing a stop-off for travellers to nearby Highclere Castle. It has now been beautifully renovated to provide a stunning dining room with a high vaulted ceiling, a thriving friendly bar, 23 stylish bedrooms and private meeting room facilities.

During your stay you will be perfectly located for visiting attractions such as Highclere Castle, Newbury Races, the Watermill Theatre and the Wayfarer’s Walk. There are also several golf courses close at hand.

Food & beverageTop
Enjoy sensational Michelin-quality food prepared by the Michelin Starred executive chef, Rob Clayton (previously of the Priory Hotel, Bath).

Passionate in their belief that it is possible to provide great food in an informal setting, without losing the essence of a traditional English country inn, the kitchen, under head chef, Simon Pitney-Baxter, serves sensibly priced modern British cuisine full of character and distinction in relaxed, informal surroundings. From bar snacks to pub classics and à la carte menus, the food is simple yet sensational.

There is a strong emphasis on local seasonal produce, so you will find that the menus change with the seasons and taking advantage of as much local produce as possible.
