La Chaux-de-Fonds is the third largest city in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, and is the birthplace of watchmaking as well as of the architect Le Corbusier, the novelist and poet Blaise Cendrars and the car pioneer Louis Chevrolet. The city’s rich heritage will surprise you. It is situated at 1,000 metres above sea level, and therefore offers opportunities for skiing and cross-country skiing just minutes away from the city centre. Hikers will enjoy the many marked hiking trails.
