The perfect base for exploring the Lake District, within easy reach of the hotel you will also find:
- Aquarium of the Lakes (10 km): the UK's largest collection of freshwater fish.
- Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole (4 km): Set in 32 acres of landscaped gardens and grounds, on the shore of Lake Windermere, this house offers exhibitions, audio-visual programmes, lake cruises and an adventure playground.
- Dove Cottage & The Wordsworth Museum (12 km) - Dove Cottage was the inspirational home of William Wordsworth for over eight years, and it was here that he wrote some of his best-known poetry.
- Hill Top (4 km): Beatrix Potter wrote many Peter Rabbit books in this little 17th-century house, which contains her furniture and china.
- Sizergh Castle & Garden (13 km): Built in the 14th century, there are panelled rooms with fine carved over-mantles and adze-hewn floors.
- Levens Hall (15 km): An Elizabethan mansion, built onto a 14th-century pele tower, with fine plasterwork and panelling. The topiary garden, laid out in 1694, has changed little in the past 300 years. Refreshments are available from the Bellingham Buttery where visitors can sample the unique dark, spiced Morocco Ale brewed by the Daleside Brewery from a secret recipe said to have been buried in the gardens during the Civil War.
- Blackwell Arts & Crafts House (2 km): Houses changing exhibitions of high-quality applied arts and crafts, as well as original design features.
- Rydal Mount and Gardens (10 km): The family home of William Wordsworth, it contains important family portraits, furniture, and many of the poet's personal possessions, together with first editions of his work. In a lovely setting overlooking Lake Windermere and Rydal Water
- Brantwood (10 km): Home of John Ruskin, this beautifully situated house boasts fine views across Coniston Water. Inside, there is a large collection of Ruskin paintings and memorabilia, and visitors can enjoy delightful nature walks through the Brantwood Estate.

From the South:
- Take the M6.
- Exit at junction 36.
- Follow the A591down to Windermere.

From the North:
- Take the M6.
- Exit at junction 40 at Penrith.
- Follow the A592 down to Windermere.

By Train
The nearest mainline railway is Oxenholme at Kendal. Windermere has its own station, which is linked to Oxenholme by an hourly service and is only 10 minutes walk away. Taxis are available at the station.
