Hotel informationTop
A world away from the tumult that is London, yet only 19 km (12 miles) from the bright lights of the West End, and just 13 km (8 miles) from Heathrow airport. This 3-star Silver Award hotel is easily accessible as it is situated close to junction 5 of the M1.

This magnificent Victorian building is the former residence of Sir William Gilbert, the writing half of the Gilbert and Sullivan partnership. The hotel and grounds have been used as a backdrop for many famous feature films and TV programmes. The beauty of this historic country house is complemented by the backdrop of the peaceful gardens and woodlands that surround it, creating an oasis. This beautiful hotel is the ideal place for a relaxing and peaceful stay for holidaymakers and business travellers alike.

Gilbert's Restaurant is set in one of the most impressive rooms of the house, with its elegant decor, flamboyant stone carvings and fabulous inglenook fireplace. Here you can enjoy tranquil views of the gardens whilst enjoying the delectable AA Rosette-recommended fare, served up by award-winning chefs. The exciting yet traditional menu offers something for everyone with vegetarian options always available. Gilbert's are pleased to cater for those guests requiring special diets. Soft piano music adds to the ambiance, while you enjoy your meal and your company.

Through the great panelled doors off the grand entrance hall you'll find the Library Bar. This was the library where Gilbert wrote some of his most well known works, and also where he created his last 2 operettas in collaboration with Sullivan. A huge fireplace once stood in place of the bar, which still features the copper surround Gilbert had installed. This peaceful room looks out onto the croquet lawn, terrace and gardens.

Surrounding Grim's Dyke Hotel is one of its most spectacular features, the grounds, an enchanting mix of wild woodland and formal gardens. Close by you will find a croquet lawn along with the kitchen gardens, beehives and Victorian greenhouses that supply the restaurant. If you venture further into the woods you can find the now empty boating lake, fringed with azaleas.

Room informationTop
Old-fashioned values combine with modern day comforts. Comfortable beds are complemented by well appointed en suite bathrooms.

Of the 46 bedrooms at Grim's Dyke, 9 luxurious rooms and suites can be found in the main house and a further 37 high quality rooms are housed in a separate lodge, 2 of which have facilities for the disabled.

All rooms include business services that include typing, copying and faxing. Period rooms also include personal laundry service, 24-hour room service and a fruit basket.

Food & beverageTop
Once the great man's Billiard Room overlooking the croquet lawn and rose beds, the recently refurbished Gilbert's Restaurant is one of the most impressive areas in the house. The magnificent inglenook fireplace is reminiscent of Gilbert's style of humour, with birds, foxes and naughty lemur monkeys all carved within the stone decoration. The food and selected wines are carefully balanced together and the restaurant now boasts 2 aa rosettes for quality and two rac dining seals.
