İstiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue) is a long and popular pedestrian shopping street which ends at Taksim Square and is served by a vintage tram. The more historic sights such as Sultanahmet Mosque, the Grand Bazaar, Archeology Museum, St. Sophia Museum and Topkapı Palace are around 4 km away. Nearby attractions include: Taksim Square (400 metres) - the popular central square of the Taksim district, home to the Atatürk Kültür Merkezi, a multi-purpose cultural centre and opera house. Tünel (800 metres) - built in 1875, the world's 2nd oldest subway line after London's Underground connects İstiklal Caddesi with Beyoglu.
