Roscommon is a historic town in the heart of Ireland, set in the Midlands, just west of the Shannon, and close to Galway City and Connemara and the northern part of County Roscommon. This enchanting county hosts lots of history, beautiful landscapes, lakes and rivers, where you can enjoy many leisure activities in the surrounding area. There are many interesting places to see and the exquisite accommodation will guarantee you a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Currently owned by Tom and Anya Grealy, The Abbey has an excellent reputation for courteous and personal service in luxurious surroundings. Since 1860, the Grealy family have been in the inn keeping business. This family tradition and unique attention to detail is carried on in the superb Abbey Hotel.

All bedrooms are finished to an exceptional standard, individually designed and tastefully finished. All bedrooms are non-smoking.

The restaurant offers various dishes prepared from only the freshest produce and served with great care and attention to detail. It is ideal whether dining for business or pleasure.

The bar comprises 2 areas. The first is a cosy retreat with plump couches and a log fire crackling in the background. The other has a more lively, atmospheric meeting place, where bar lunches and snacks are served daily.

Roscommon Museum (2 km) - Housing a unique collection of artefacts relating to the history of the county, the town and its people. Formerly a Presbyterian Church, built in the 1860s. Many items are on display.

Roscommon Castle (3 km) - Now in ruins, Roscommon Castle was built around the reign of Edward I, built on rising ground in the North of the town. After changing hands several times, the castle fell into the hands of Cromwellians, who demolished it in 1652.

Boyle Abbey (5 km) - The magnificent restored ruins of the Cistercian Abbey founded in 1161. It is still regarded as the finest of the Cistercian churches to survive in Ireland with the majesty of the south arcade unparalleled elsewhere in the country.

- From Roscommon Town, at the main Galway Road Roundabout (County Library is the landmark on the left-hand side), take the Galway Road (N63).
- The hotel is located 100 yards along on the left-hand side.
- The entrance gates are recognisable by the original castle style.
