The hotel is situated in Mezőkövesd, which features the most prominent Matyó population in Hungary. The Matyó consider themselves separate ethnic group, since they came into the region after the Turkish invasion drove them from other parts of Hungary and Slovakia. Their famed art and culture is now a core addition to Hungarian identity.

Szent László Catholic Church (4 km) - Originally a 15th century Gothic structure, baroque features were added to this striking church in 1770. Its frescos are by István Takács, whose style was greatly influenced by the folk art of the local Matyó community.
